Useful tools on Westlaw:

Two areas on Westlaw's Practical Law may help you with Constitutional Law (Click the arrow next to the Westlaw Precision logo to access Practical Law).

1. Once you are on the Practical Law page, scroll down to School Resource Center. Click on Practical Law Course Study Collections. Next, under Other Courses, click on Constitutional Law: Rights and Liberties. This will bring you to an area with all types of Constitutional Law study materials. Choose the topic related to what you need.

2. Under Practice Areas, select Government Practice: Federal General Practice Federal. This section is easily searchable, and has the refinement tool both at the top and sides of the screen. You'll find practice notes, checklists, and toolkits. 

Looking for something more specific? Refine your search through an "advanced search" located at the top of Westlaw's Precision tool.

 Lexis+ provides access to primary and secondary materials from the Federal and State levels of government. Sign-in required.

  • Use Lexis+ to research statutes, cases, regulations, and constitutions.
  • Under "Tools & Resources," click on "Law School Resources," select "Constitutional Law" for outlines, case briefs, topic explanations, statutes, and news.
  • See Lexis' Secondary Sources collection for Constitutional Law Treatises & Guides
  • Use the Practice Area tab on Lexis to access Constitutional Law. You'll find cases, statutes & legislation, administrative materials & regulations, case-related materials, secondary materials, forms, and news & reference.
  • Click Constitutional Law--Browse Topics on the right to refine your search for specialized topics.

Although Bloomberg does not have a practice or student area exclusively for Constitutional Law, the database has resources linking you to statutes, cases & dockets, regulations, and constitutions. You can simply type your desired inquiry into the search bar at the top of the screen and refine your search as items are shown.

  • The "Cite" button helps with bluebook citation accuracy
  • The "More like this" button helps target relevant search results.
  • Search "Pathfinder Subjects" for specific articles on your topic.

See also specific collections on Hein's database page. Collections include a variety of sources, including articles, bibliographies, legislative histories, external websites, books, relevant Congressional materials, and more, depending on the topic. Here are sample collections:

 

After going to the PLI Plus page, use the Browse pull pull-down at the top of the page. Choose Practice Area. Then choose Constitutional Law. Under this choice, you can then narrow down your search by refining the topic you are looking for and the source you need.
